BOOOOO!!! Continuing my firsts this year, I attended my first Halloween this past weekend - in the mecca of the festival - Castro in San Francisco!
But before that we went to a local celebration. Getting in the spirit (quite literally!), I attended the Halloween festival where I saw the most weird looking costumes - kids attempting to intentionally make themselves unrecognizable in the most whacky clothes. But, it was great. We walked around the different booths - from the duck racing, ball toss, hoopla to the face painting booths. I got to admit I was too spooked to enter the ghost house.
We then drove to SF - to Castro street. Dressed as a duck myself, I found myself subjected to random awwww's and chants of "baby on street". Stranger posed to take pictures with me while all I was interested in was gaping at the most crazy looking non-human mass of bodies on the street. I was intrigued by the skeleton and the multi-handed devil - I even found a fellow duck! It was quite a sight to watch Cleopatra (Mom) carry a duck in her arms :) My usual cooing and grumbling were reduced to stares of curiosity and disbelief as I tried to understand the different planet on that street. I guess anything goes there because some people even asked Dad - is the baby real?? I won't take it personally, but really..c'mon!
I'm already plotting my outfit for next year...
